Nature and Conservation in Colombia - Ivan Sanchez

Prepared by: Ivan Sanchez

In Colombia the current laws establish standards that require nature conservation.  It is a necessity in a country that is known for being very rich in biodiversity.  This country has one of the largest reserves in the world river; this is due to its geographical location.  It is part of the Caribbean, the Pacific Ocean, Amazon river Basin, and Orinoco River, Andes sea it where the spend many rivers, including the Magdalena River and Cauca River.  These regions have a rich variety of plants and animals.  The percentage of territory remains 10%.  An indigenous territory it is also protects and conserves nature.

The most popular outdoor activities are traditional fishing outdoors in swamps, rivers and Sea.  Today modern sports like surfing, diving and snorkeling are practiced.  I recommend visiting Nature Park Tayrona and Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta where there are indigenous communities and ecotourism practice.
